So much to see, in so many realms.
My last trip there to visit ( after having lived on the big Island for 8 years) was a visual inner journey. A precious journey. To find out why...click on read more!
We decided to go to St. Benedict's, The Painted Church of Hononaunau,
for it's church service. Having been brought up in a very strict and rigorous church family I generally tend to reject such things. However, having lived there for so long and intending to go to St Benedicts "just once' for the "precious" experience people have described, never seemed to happen. To get up and attend a 7:15 service seemed somewhat unthinkable!
My sweet sister and I were moved to do so on my recent visit. I have to say it wasn't so much a religious experience...attending the little church, as it was just a rich experience in the realm of the senses and soul.
It is a "don't miss" to visit and a recommended, "try to make a Sunday service"
This present church was erected in 1899 by Father John Velghe. Without any professional training and using house paint on ordinary wood he beautified the church with his paintings. In those days few Hawaiians could read and so he taught with pictures-most successfully. For those interested in reading more about the history click here About The Painted Church

And afterward we went swimming and I swear I thought I saw an angel!
But ... it was simply my niece swimming under water, an angel in her own right!
May you have moonlit starry nights to lead you on your inner journey to Hawaii!
Aloha.
