Birthdays are a BIG DEAL in my family. Many years ago (many, many), they started out as the typical birthday - one day, on the day. If you stayed up late enough the night before... "HELLO!!! It's my Birthday!!!" And, if you stayed up late enough on the day of... "Ohhhh darn, my birthday's over".

But then they started  s   t   r    e    t   c   h   i    n     g.

At first just a couple days - day before, day of, day after.

Then it turned into a week.

Now it seems to have settled into the confines of a month - Thank God! I'm mean, where are we going to go next - the whole year? I'm surprised my father hasn't moved on to a season - "Hey it's spring! Happy Birthday!!!"

It is a delight though - the way my Dad treats my Mom. Something thoughtful every day. He's that way even when it isn't her birthday. But the month of November gets the added bonus of a birthday gift EVERY DAY - after all, "It's your birthday! this month".

So here it is June - My Dad's Birthday - June. Never mind what day his birthday is - It's JUNE. So he calls me towards the end of May...

"Hey Ed, I want to get your mother a present for my birthday" (bless his heart!). "She needs a KINDLE". And he goes on to tell me all about this gadget Amazon sells and that I need to go check it out.

Well, I checked it out. Mom now has a Kindle and it's VERY COOL!! She LOVES it! In addition to downloading books (wireless like a cell phone), she can listen to music (mp3), download her own files (including blog posts like this one), view her email, and more, more, more. Did I mention it's so very cool? !!

Happy Birthday Dad! Now I want/need one too!! Don't we all! Don't You?

Just so you know - Autumn is right around the corner - and that's MY BIRTHDAY! And then there's 2009 which is my NEXT BIRTHDAY.

There's simply too much to say about this "gadget" to enter it here. Just click on the picture above for all the details.
