Thanks Cory for finding this. It's bizzare, but it made me smile..a twisted smile.

Smoking skeleton garden-ornament

POSTED BY CORY DOCTOROW, JULY 18, 2008 3:49 AM | PERMALINK

Grimgarden's "Doomies" are little ceramic fellers shaped like hooded death. Fill them with incense cones and they waft magic stench through your poisoned herbs and carnivorous fly-traps. Link (Thanks, Stefan!)

Update: Geez, I almost missed their "Rebirdy" -- a skull-shaped bird feeder that has the chirpy critters feeding out of the eye-sockets

Tiger Temple in Thailand... Amazing!

The tiger temple in Thailand is a place where an extraordinary bond

between man and the world's biggest cats has been formed.. The tigers

here are so peaceful its almost as if they have accepted buddhism as

their religion. In fact, they even sit for the meditating sessions

with the monks and kneel down in front of them as it they are the

gurus. The tigers are so docile that the monks have to sometimes

train them to fight otherwise they would lose all their power of self

protection.

Hawaii?

Thanks Lilbird for that sweet article on the "inner Hawaii."

Here is a fun photo of my son (the artist I have written about before.) I want to share this, because not many people know this part of Hawaii, the "upper Hawaii."

This is on top of Mauna Kea on a somewhat windy day!101_80_1

He has snowboarded down the mountain too, in shorts and a tee shirt.

Aloha nui loa.

 Ahhhh, Hawaii. CIMG0901

So much to see, in so many realms.

My last trip there to visit ( after having lived on the big Island for 8 years) was a visual inner journey. A precious journey.  To find out why...click on read more!

 helene2

Well...Every once in a while one comes across a remarkable person, that is truly unique (as we all are), gifted, and special.

Goodness... We are all those things too. But what is different about Helene I guess, is best described by my friend Tom as... "She's the real deal!"... said in his Chicago accent. She walks her walk, and talks her talk, and her presence truly is the "real deal." That is sometimes hard to find these days...Like a good doctor!

helene

Bless her wonderful New York accent, and her heart!  She has  has a global mission. She is a Marriage & Family Therapist, intuitive counselor, spiritual teacher/healer, psychic, and channel, author, and speaker. She assists people to "love themselves to peace," which she believes is the key to health, happiness, success, and world peace. I personally have had many meetings around the world with remarkable people and healers, and have been so very blessed to do so.  I do indeed count her as one of them.

Helene has remarkable credentials in counseling,  teaching, writing and speaking, All her gifts, including her intuitive counseling and channeling her angelic guides, empower people toward their own self healing, self discovery and peaceful  empowerment.

To read more about Helene, and contact her, click on read more, below.  PS, This is not an ad...I treasure this lady!

A riveting new novel for teenagers.

Submitted by Jani on Wed, 07/02/2008 - 17:31.

Cory Dockorow's new novel, Little Brother, gets rave reviews.  "Raising pertinent questions and fostering discussion, this techno-thriller is an outstanding first purchase" School Library Journal

"Teenagers should find this book a riveting read, with characters they can identify with, and like all really good YA books, adults should find this book just as riveting, with concepts and philosophies presented that require thought and contemplation. This is the best book I've read out of the 2008 crop so far, and I'd be very much surprised if it doesn't at least make the 2009 Hugo nomination list, if not take the award itself."

Below is one young fellow's response.

To purchase the book and a review click on read more below.

The flood of positive reviews for Little Brother has been nothing short of amazing, but two very special ones came in today. One is from John E. Cook’s son Ean, left on their kitchen whiteboard last night after Ean finished the book (pictured here), the other from my friend and colleague William Gibson: “I’ve not previously expressed my admiration for Cory Doctorow’s Little Brother. As Wm. Burroughs was fond of saying, “young boys need it special”. In the case of Cory’s book, though, young girls need it special too.”

The old and the new. Beautiful Indian Comic books!

The old indian comic books were oh so dreamy, so old world, and rich in color.

old indian comic books

There is an exciting new take now.....

 ganesha

"Hollywood's search for new mythologies now extends to the Indian subcontinent.

One of the world's greatest stories, India's Ramayana, is being retold as a post-apocalyptic comic book, in "Ramayana Reborn," with an animated television spinoff for kids titled "The Seven Sounds."

This is the brainchild of the newly launched Virgin Comics and Virgin Animation, an entertainment partnership between British billionaire Richard Branson, bestselling New Age author Deepak Chopra, film director Shekhar Kapur ("Bandit Queen" and "Elizabeth") and India's leading licenser of comic books, Gotham Entertainment Group, which has brought "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" to Delhi and Bombay, as well as launched a new Indian version of "Spider-Man" across the world."

Click on read more below for the whole story about Richard Branson, Deepak and Gotham Chopra.

Where the Hell Is Matt?  matt4 minutes of pure Joy!

Matthew Harding spent 14 months visiting 42 countries in order to produce "Where the Hell is Matt?", a four-and-a-half minute video featuring Harding (and anyone else he could rope into it) doing an incredibly silly, high-energy dance in some of the most breathtaking scenery around the world. This may be the best four minutes and twenty-eight seconds of your week.To read more about Matt and the crazy company STRIDE GUM,(VERY cool advertising) that sponsored his second trip click on read more below. (Thanks Cory Doctorow/Boing Boing)

Ralph!

This post was inspired by my friends, Ralph and Silke. I just hung up the phone (with them) and wondered how Ralph was doing in the diapering "little Ralphie" department, and found this video. My laugh for the day!

Enjoy!

There's a good book on the next page for new dads, check it out, click on read more below... then scroll down
